Goofy giggle-butts...

Hubby is off on another whirlwind tour of the world. *wink* I'm only a wee bit envious...you see his flight left PDX today at 1:20p and he is still on that same flight as I type...with another 3 hours to go. He has a brief layover in Germany and then another 9 hours to India. Glad I'm not on that plane, but at the same time, wishing I could be there to explore new places with him. (Sidenote: whoever's working on that whole "beaming" concept...what's taking you so long?!?!?)

Anyway, getting back to the point of this post. Have you ever noticed a child's ability to switch gears like *snap*...that? Well, needless to say, it was a rather emotional morning for my "sensitive" children. The first five minutes after dropping Dad off at the airport, there was nothing but sobbing coming from the backseat of the van. Then it would be quiet for awhile, until one would start whimpering, then another, then the other...until everyone was sobbing again. It was everything I had not to laugh, not at their sorrow, of course, but at the sheer sound of it all. This cycle occurred a few more times...until out of the blue...one of them started giggling. Then came more giggling...and more. I couldn't figure out why! Had one of them "tooted"? No...I didn't hear anything...or smell anything. What was so doggone funny? I sat there staring at them in the rearview mirror...tears still streaming down their freckled little faces... all three of them giggling hysterically in the back seat. It was the most contagious giggling I have ever heard...before I knew it, I was laughing...laughing so hard my stomach was aching.

I love listening to children giggle. The pit of the stomach, just can't help it, completely contagious giggle of kids just being kids. I love how contagious it is...I love that in the midst of their sorrow, they were able to find something to laugh about. (even if I'm still not sure what exactly that was!)
