Politics according to a 3rd and 4th grader...

On our way home from fishing yesterday afternoon, Lucas and his buddy, Jacob were in the backseat talking about their fun day of fishing. I must have tuned out their conversation for awhile, because out of the blue I heard Lucas say "I'm going for Hilary". Needless to say, that perked up my (typically) republican ears. The conversation that followed went something like this:

Lucas: I'm going for Hilary.
Jacob: What????
Lucas: I'm. Going. For. Hilary.
Jacob: There's no way I could vote for her. Bill has completely taken over her campaign.
Lucas: Yeah, I know. BUT...I'm only going for her because in the end, McCain has a much better chance of beating Hilary than Obama.
Jacob: I know, but I don't like Hilary.
Lucas: I don't think anyone one does.

((thoughtful pause))

Jacob: I'm still going for Obama.
Lucas: Over McCain?
Jacob: Yeah.
Lucas: Oh...okay. :)

((thoughtful pause))

Jacob: Wanna watch King Kong when we get to my house?
Lucas: Sure!!

It was everything I had not to laugh out loud. Such a serious conversation...I thought it was great that they both felt so passionate about their candidate, yet were content to respectfully disagree and move on.

No way they were letting their difference of opinion get in the way of their friendship!!! :)
