Life has been so hectic these past few weeks, I was determined to slooooow down today and just enjoy Christmas day with family and friends. It was a perfect day! We enjoyed a slow morning of gift opening and a yummy brunch...waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, and, of course, sausage gravy & biscuits! YUMMO! (Kathi...that was for you. *wink*)
Ron, Steph & Jake (bro, sis-in-law, nephew...for those 'not in the know') stayed the night Christmas Eve so that they would be here first thing in the morning to open gifts as a family. It was a blast watching Jacob (19 mos.) open his gifts...he was so excited about every gift, exclaiming "WOW" while in the process of ripping every last piece of paper and tape off each and every gift! Our kids were a hoot...they were just as excited, if not more, to give gifts to each other, than to open their own gifts. It was great.
After gifts were opened and sustenance was obtained...it was time to start cooking for dinner. We had a feast...Coca Cola & brown sugar glazed ham, twice baked potatoes & potatoes au gratin (compliments to Chef Bob), green bean casserole (a holiday must have), veggies, rolls...etc. And we topped it off with hot apple crisp a la mode and Smores Pie.
Our good friends, Bob & Wendy, gave us a GREAT gift...a dvd titled "Thou Shalt Laugh". It's a collection of Christian stand-up comics and it is an absolute riot. We were roaring. Thanks guys...you're awesome!
It really was a wonderful day! Well, except for the part where I plunged a cutco knife into my pinky. My husband always jokes that it's not a holiday unless I burn or cut myself , usually both (yes, I'm that good!)...no burns today, but a cut good enough to rival every other holiday. I was trying to cut the wrapper off the outside of the summer sausage and SLIP...knife in the tip of my finger...lots of blood...and pain...lots of pain. It was bizarre, it felt like I had hit my pinky with a hammer and yet it felt like I had burned it at the same time. The theory is, I severed a nerve...but, since none of us have phd's...don't quote me on that. The good news is, the bleeding eventually stopped...and other than having to type with only 9 fingers, it hasn't been too much of a problem since.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas spent with family & friends...oh, and no blood!!

Sounds like a wonderful day! I'm sorry that you had to live up to your expectation of hurting yourself in some way. You need to work on not making that a holiday tradition!
