It seems as though we have been fighting one nasty "bug" after another this winter...but I'm happy to announce that our family seems to be on the mend. Today was our first day out and about and I have to say, it was the perfect cure for our cabin fever. We stopped by homeschool group to say "hi" and drop stuff off, but didn't stay long because we're still battling a nasty cough and didn't want to share our germs with the few healthy families left in the group. Then, we ran a few errands...I took the boys to get their much needed haircuts and hit Target so that I could restock our cleaning cupboard. (I was completely out of clorox and lysol wipes...imagine that!)
Then, cough drop in mouth and purell in pocket, Michaella attended a friend's bowling birthday party. I had originally cancelled but the friend's mom insisted that it was okay for Michaella to come...so I agreed. The boys and I bowled on a nearby lane and though I'm not much of a bowler, I managed to bowl a 180 my last game. (yes...without bumpers) My boys were so proud! :)
The best news of the day is: we got our first FULL morning of school work in all week! We're SO behind...the planner in me is having a really hard time coping with this, but I also have to be realistic. Making the kids do 20 pages per subject per day to get caught up just isn't realistic! *wink* So...I'm "re-planning" and spreading the past due work over the next couple of months so that I don't feel so behind.
Wednesday, after an hour and a half of listening to the kids sniffle and cough and cry at the school table, I caved in and let them take off the rest of the day. The "deal" I made with them was that they had to watch the movie The Ten Commandments with me. I neglected to mention that it was 3 hours and 45 minutes long...(he he he) but they were surprisingly good sports about it. After it was over, these were their comments, word for word and in this order.
Jeremiah: "That was insanely long, but insanely good."
Lucas: "That was very interesting."
Michaella: "NOW can we watch SpongeBob???"
Does that tell you anything about their personalities?? :)
It was a good flick...for the most part. There were obvious liberties taken throughout the movie...but our purpose in watching it was to observe the Egyptian culture, relegion, and topography. We've watched a handful of documentaries on everything from the building of the pyramids, to mummies, to modern day Egyptian culture. It's part of our KONOS study of Africa...and the kids and I are loving it.
We're looking forward to the long weekend. The kids have basketball games tomorrow and then we're celebrating Joe's birthday with special plans that I can't reveal because he reads my blog. *wink* Then Sunday, we have church, LifeGroup, and then we'll spend the night packing for our ski trip on Monday...the rest of said-birthday boy's b-day weekend celebration. (say that 5 times fast!) There's a chance that the weather will not cooperate and that we won't be able to go skiing...but we have back-up plans. Either way...it'll be a fun day! Assuming, of course, no one gets sick between now and then! :)

Yes, it was so glad to finally see you guys on Sunday! :) And we were one the sick families on Friday...as you know, the bug finally bit Allyson, but it just wasn't a very big bite! ;)
I loved hearing that you made the kids sit for 3.5 hours watching The Ten Commandments! :) And I can totally picture each of those comments!
